Active Newcastle is organising a walking event – in the aptly named suburb of Walker – to launch our Walking for Health scheme.
This Girl Can is a celebration of active women who are doing their thing no matter how well they do it, how they look or even how red their face gets!
Active Newcastle want to help all kinds of women overcome the fear of judgement that is stopping so many from joining in and leading active lives.
In Newcastle, the gap between men and women taking part in physical activity is getting narrower but we want to eliminate the gap completely!
Show your support and join us for the 2017 launch of This Girl Can in Newcastle. Come and meet local women and girls who have started feeling that “they can” and help us celebrate local women getting active and having fun while doing it.
Take part in the UV walk or run or just come and soak up the atmosphere if you want. Meet active organisations from all over Newcastle who run women-only activities in a supportive environment.
The event will start at 6.00pm with a mass warm up led by a fab local instructor. We will then set off on the 5k route around Exhibition Park (Claremont Road, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE2 4PZ). Participants can choose to walk or run the distance.
The event is taking part on International Women’s Day (8th March) with the theme #beboldforchange. With that in mind, please dress in colourful and luminous clothing to help us light up Exhibition Park. We will also provide a UV station so you can pick up some colour on the day.
The event is open to females and children providing they can walk or run 5k.
The cafe is open until 8pm if you want to grab a drink and snack after the event.
Please arrive from 5.30pm as the event will start promptly at 6.00 pm.
