At the World Space Business Week (WSBW) today, Sceye, a leading U.S. aerospace company specialising in High-Altitude Platform Systems (HAPS), announced the successful completion of its Series C funding round. This significant round was led by Mawarid Holding Company (“Mawarid”), a prominent Saudi corporation recognised for its established presence in information and communication technology, satellite solutions, and digital innovation.
Strengthening Financial Position
With the closure of this Series C funding round, Sceye has solidified its financial standing, achieving a pre-money valuation of $525 million. This substantial influx of capital provides the necessary liquidity to support ongoing research and development activities, extensive flight programmes, and the launch of initial commercial operations scheduled for 2025. The successful acquisition of these funds marks a crucial step in Sceye’s journey towards commercialising its innovative HAPS technology, enabling the company to leverage its advancements in aerospace solutions.
Strategic Alliances and Market Expansion
The partnership with Mawarid represents a continuation of Sceye’s successful strategy of building strategic alliances. This follows the involvement of América Móvil, which was the largest investor in Sceye’s Series B round, focusing primarily on expanding the company’s influence in Latin America. The collaboration with Mawarid is expected to open new territories and create additional market opportunities for Sceye’s pioneering solutions, enhancing its operational reach and service delivery in emerging markets.
Mikkel Vestergaard Frandsen, CEO and Founder of Sceye, remarked, Securing this Series C funding marks a significant turning point for our company. The capital raised will expedite the advancement of our platform and enhance our commercial strategy, setting the stage for the launch of our HAPS technology in 2025. Our partnership with Mawarid opens new territories and market opportunities for our innovative solutions.” Frandsen’s vision underscores the commitment to utilising the latest technologies to expand connectivity and support various industries, ensuring Sceye remains at the forefront of aerospace innovation.
Enhancing Technological Advancements
Ghassan Itani, Assistant Chairman of Mawarid, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, “This partnership reinforces Mawarid’s commitment to pioneering technological advancements and delivering digital solutions that cater to critical industry sectors. By integrating HAPS technology, we enhance our position as a comprehensive provider of strategic industry solutions, positioning us favourably in a rapidly evolving market.” The synergies between the two companies are expected to lead to significant innovations in the deployment of aerial platforms.
Recent Achievements and Future Potential
This announcement comes on the heels of the success of Sceye’s 2024 flight programme, during which the company accomplished a significant milestone by demonstrating perpetual flight capabilities while remaining over a designated area of operation. The successful test flight proved that Sceye’s HAPS can operate continuously, powered by solar energy during daylight hours and utilising battery storage to ensure flight during the night. This achievement highlights the potential of HAPS technology as a transformative infrastructure layer bridging terrestrial and space systems, redefining how we approach connectivity.
Sceye’s innovations represent the future of connectivity, significantly expanding access to communications while managing disaster response, monitoring environmental changes, and detecting climate-related disasters in real-time. As the company progresses toward commercialisation, its impact on connectivity and industry solutions will be profound, paving the way for advancements that will shape the future of aerospace and telecommunications.
