The Young People’s Trust for the Environment (YPTE) has unveiled its new identity as Better Planet Education, launching a cutting-edge digital platform designed to engage the next generation in environmental stewardship. The redesigned website is a resource hub for teachers, parents, and young people, offering a wealth of information on nature and critical environmental issues.
A Comprehensive Digital Platform for All Ages
The Better Planet Education website is engineered to be intuitive and user-friendly, ensuring that individuals at all levels of environmental knowledge can easily access valuable content. From beginners to eco-advocates, the platform provides engaging resources, including lesson plans, home learning packs, and over 200 fact sheets, to help users understand and act on key environmental challenges.
“We are immensely proud to unveil our rebrand as Better Planet Education,” said Peter Littlewood, Director of Better Planet Education. It reflects our commitment to empowering youth and educators to take impactful action towards a sustainable future. Our new website provides an accessible way to learn and get involved in solving environmental issues.”
Driving Engagement: One Million Eco Hours in the 2023-24 Academic Year
In its ongoing mission to foster a generation of environmental guardians, Better Planet Education has made a notable impact in 2023-24. The platform has facilitated over one million “eco hours,” representing the total time spent by educators, parents, and students engaging with the website’s lessons, resources, and initiatives. This statistic highlights the growing momentum and desire for environmental education among young people.
The website offers a wide range of topics, including climate change, biodiversity conservation, deforestation, and plastic pollution, to name a few. A special feature, the “Young People’s Voices” section, showcases youth-created content and provides a space for young individuals to actively participate in the environmental conversation.
Better Planet Schools: Empowering Youth to Take Action
Another key component of the new website is the Better Planet Schools programme. With nearly 570 primary schools in the UK currently involved, this project empowers children to learn about environmental issues and then take concrete actions to combat them. From tackling climate change and reducing waste to curbing fast fashion, Better Planet Schools allows pupils to take an active role in addressing the pressing environmental challenges of our time.
“We are excited to offer Better Planet Schools for free to UK primary schools,” said Peter Littlewood, Director of Better Planet Education. It’s an incredible way to get young people involved in environmental education and action from an early age, Littlewood added.
Welcoming Amy Jiang to the Board of Trustees
In a significant development for Better Planet Education, Amy Jiang has joined the Board of Trustees. Jiang, a former Young Trustee, recently completed a Masters in Anthropocene Studies at the University of Cambridge. She will mentor the Board of Young Trustees, bringing her expertise and passion for climate education to help drive the organisation’s mission forward.
“I have a strong passion for climate education and am eager to support Better Planet Education’s growth,” Jiang shared. “Together, we will motivate and empower the next generation of environmental leaders.”
Conclusion
With its comprehensive new website and innovative educational initiatives, Better Planet Education is set to continue making a lasting impact on environmental awareness and action. By fostering a deeper understanding of critical environmental issues, the organisation is empowering young people and educators to be active participants in the global movement towards a sustainable future.
