Wild Moon Distillery, a rising star in the craft spirits industry, has triumphed at the 2024 Great Taste Awards, earning three prestigious 1-star accolades for its exceptional products. Judged by the Guild of Fine Food’s expert panel, the distillery’s Welsh Witch Lammas Vodka, Mabon Rum, and Original Spiced Rum were recognised in the world’s most trusted food and drink accreditation scheme.
Founded in 2019 by 32-year-old Jade Garston, Wild Moon Distillery has quickly gained a reputation for its premium, natural-flavour spirits. Competing against 13,672 products in a rigorous blind judging process, the distillery was honoured with three awards, marking a significant achievement in the highly competitive industry.
Judges’ Praise for Wild Moon Spirits
The judges highlighted Lammas Vodka, introduced in July 2023, as “remarkably smooth with a touch of sweetness, reminiscent of vanilla or honey, delivering a warm kick in a pleasantly balanced way.” The Original Spiced Rum, honed over the years, was commended for being “intriguing and layered, with hints of cloves and rowan berries, offering a satisfying mouthfeel and a moderately dry finish.” One judge acknowledged its connection to the traditional Welsh Bara Brith, noting, On the palate, it evokes the essence of a tea-infused fruit loaf with candied peel and a rich, dark crust.
The Mabon Rum, launched in September 2023, was celebrated for capturing the essence of nature and the fruit harvest. Judges described it as “highly palatable, with a pleasant sweetness supported by the spices. Nice and easy drinking.”
