With less than two weeks to go until the grand opening of the 7th China International Import Expo (CIIE), preparations for this much-anticipated global economic event are nearing completion. The expo, set to take place across an expansive area of over 420,000 square meters at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai, promises to be a significant moment for both China and the global economy. As in previous years, the event will draw world-class exhibitors and leaders from diverse sectors to discuss global economic trends and opportunities.
Fostering the New Development Paradigm for New Opportunities
For the first time, the 7th CIIE will feature a special section dedicated to new materials, signaling a deeper commitment to fostering innovation and sustainable development. In addition, the innovation incubation special section will see significant expansion, underscoring China’s ambition to drive future-focused economic growth. Sub-forums of the Hongqiao Forum (HQF) will also focus on cutting-edge topics such as debut economies and the stimulation of consumer spending, offering a platform for policy makers, business leaders, and thought leaders to exchange ideas.
Promoting the “dual circulation” strategy, which integrates both domestic and international markets, the expo will showcase over 400 new products, groundbreaking technologies, and novel services from exhibitors around the world. Notably, the event will host a record 780 delegations, which include 39 trade authorities and 4 industrial trade groups. These delegations will focus on procurement and facilitate cross-border business exchanges. The 7th CIIE is expected to provide ample opportunities for both international and Chinese companies to engage in high-level business discussions and collaborations.
Augmenting High-Standard Opening Up for Shared Prosperity
This year’s CIIE will also set a new record for participation, with 3,496 exhibitors confirmed from 129 countries and regions, surpassing previous editions. Among these, 297 Fortune Global 500 companies and industry-leading enterprises are confirmed to attend, showcasing their latest products and services to a global audience. The event will feature the China Pavilion, where the latest achievements of Chinese modernization will be displayed, highlighting the country’s progress and commitment to opening up further to the world.
The Hongqiao Forum will play a central role at the expo, releasing the 2024 World Openness Report and the World Openness Index, which will provide valuable insights into building a more open global economy. These reports are expected to offer a deep dive into global trade trends and international economic integration, paving the way for more open markets and inclusive growth.
Facilitating an Open and Inclusive World Economy Beneficial to All
The 7th CIIE is poised to foster greater international collaboration and inclusivity. A total of 77 countries and international organizations have confirmed their participation in the Comprehensive Country Exhibition, a record number. Notable guest countries of honor include France, Malaysia, Nicaragua, Saudi Arabia, Tanzania, and Uzbekistan, which will showcase their most innovative products and technologies.
Additionally, the expo will place special emphasis on countries that are poised for rapid economic development. African nations with high-potential exports will be given dedicated support to ensure their visibility and engagement with global business leaders. Under the theme of “High-Standard Opening up for Universally Beneficial and Inclusive Economic Globalization,” the HQF will focus on fostering open global cooperation and enhancing economic governance. Experts from various sectors, including energy storage and artificial intelligence, will discuss the role of these technologies in shaping the future of global business.
