Kickboxing is a dynamic and exciting contact sport, evolving from the many different martial arts.
It is a recent sport, originating in the US during the middle of last century.
It is sometimes referred to as full contact karate, or karate boxing, which helps to explain how it originated.
Essentially it combines kicks from martial arts and punching from boxing.
In a typical Kickboxing class you will people of all ages and backgrounds training together in a relaxed friendly atmosphere.
You will see students doing ‘padwork’ in pairs, skipping, ‘shadow fighting’, sparring with others, and generally working on techniques.
Kickboxing training is a great form of exercise providing an excellent cardiovascular workout, improving your stamina, together with overall fitness.
If you are interested in trying Kickboxing without any contact you could try aerobic or cardiovascular (cardio) kickboxing, which combines elements of boxing, martial arts, and aerobics to provide overall physical conditioning and toning.
